G: a portrait
G is an architect friend of mine. He wanted a head-shot for his firm back in Italy, so we shot this in Trinity Bellwoods park.
Photo-Booth
We set up a photo booth at our housewarming party, which allowed guests to photograph themselves with friends. I took some wise advice, and tried not to obsessively tweak them, in regards to saving time and getting them posted. Also respected the natural crop in each photo. There were well over 400 to choose from, so after days of selection reduction, these are the top 125.
Set up: Canon 40D on tripod with wired remote. Set with 2 second delay, and tethered to imac for immediate viewing.
Cybersync’s tripping one background light, and one reflective umbrella.

Proof of Concept
After seeing the Betty Goodwin: Work Notes exhibit at the AGO (over 80 of her personal work books on display, documenting her life’s work), I became inspired to start making notes of my own work for personal reference. In this example, I was attempting to capture the feeling of hot coffee in the morning. While the experiment itself is rather unexciting, the diagram of the physical space outside of the frame gives meaningful context to the complexity of the shot. I believe that it makes the photo far more interesting, especially for a personal exercise.
